How to add an external link – Host Building

External links

External links can be a link to:

a website which will open within the app;
an email, prompting a new draft email to be opened by the native email app on the user's phone;
a phone number, allowing users to start a new call to the number listed without leaving the app.;
a document in the document library within the app; or
another feature within the app using a deeplink.

Up to 3 external links can be added to the following features:

Spaces
Services
Events & Functions
News & Comms
Noticeboard
Offers

Steps to add an external link to a website

As external links can be used on a number of features, for the purpose of these steps we will add an external link to a space, however the steps will be similar for the other features listed above.

From the left-hand side menu, select Spaces > Available Spaces.
On the Available Spaces screen, navigate to the space you would like to add an external link to and on the right of the name click External Links > External Link #1 to add your first external link.
When the add external link window opens, select Web as the link type and paste the website URL in link address. If you would like the website to open within the app, tick ‘Open in an internal browser’, if not the website will open in the device’s native browser. In the button text field, add in the text you would like to appear on the link button.
Click Save.

Steps to add an external link to an email

As external links can be used on a number of features, for the purpose of these steps we will add an external link to a space, however the steps will be similar for the other features listed above.

From the left-hand side menu, select Spaces > Available Spaces.
On the Available Spaces screen, navigate to the space you would like to add an external link to and on the right of the name click External Links > External Link #1 to add your first external link.
When the add external link window opens, select Email as the link type and paste the email address in link address. In the button text field, add in the text you would like to appear on the link button.
Click Save.

Steps to add an external link to a phone number

As external links can be used on a number of features, for the purpose of these steps we will add an external link to a space, however the steps will be similar for the other features listed above.

From the left-hand side menu, select Spaces > Available Spaces.
On the Available Spaces screen, navigate to the space you would like to add an external link to and on the right of the name click External Links > External Link #1 to add your first external link.
When the add external link window opens, select Phone as the link type and paste the phone number (including area and country code if necessary) will need it in link address. In the button text field, add in the text you would like to appear on the link button.
Click Save.

Steps to add an external link to a document in the document library

As external links can be used on a number of features, for the purpose of these steps we will add an external link to a space, however the steps will be similar for the other features listed above.

From the left-hand side menu, select Spaces > Available Spaces.
On the Available Spaces screen, navigate to the space you would like to add an external link to and on the right of the name click External Links > External Link #1 to add your first external link.
When the add external link window opens, select Document Library as the link type, select the category and then the document you want to link to. In the button text field, add in the text you would like to appear on the link button.
Click Save.

Steps to add an external link that deeplinks somewhere within the app

Deeplinks enable you to send the app user to somewhere else within the app.

As external links and deeplinks can be used on a number of features, for the purpose of these steps we will add an external link to a space that directs to another space, however the steps will be similar for the other features listed above.

Note, group targeting will still apply to the location in the app you are deeplinking to.

From the left-hand side menu, click Spaces > Available Spaces.
Navigate to the feature you want to deeplink to, navigate to the right of the feature and click Actions > Copy Deeplink.
Now navigate to the space you would like to add an external link to and on the right of the name click External Links > External Link #1 to add your first external link.
When the add external link window opens, select Deeplink as the link type, paste the deeplink in the IOS URL and Android URL fields and add the ID number from the end of the pasted deeplink into the IOS Schema and Android Schema fields. In the button text field, add in the text you would like to appear on the link button.
Click Save.
